Our history
We were born in the crown of a hat braiding wheat straw by hand and weaving hats from natural fibers. It all started with my great-grandfather in 1920 in a traditional town called Gata de Gorgos. It used to be said that the inhabitants of this town had enchanted hands, with which they braided all kinds of natural fibers and did authentic wonders. My great grandfather passed on his knowledge to my grandfather who always had his eye on a new project wherever his hands took him. That enthusiasm for his profession was passed on to me and I wanted to be a milliner and create objects with my hands that also told stories and were eternal... During the summer afternoons my grandfather taught me the techniques of millinery, crafts and vegetable dyes . He transmitted to me his passion for handmade pieces with dedication and care . When I finished my Architecture studies I decided to take some wooden stairs and climb to the top of my hat to continue braiding straw and vegetable fibers as my grandfather taught me.
Thus Zahati was born.
Zahati is artisan tradition, modernity and sustainability. Eternal pieces created with natural fibers that are inspired by architecture, art and nature, respecting the tradition of Gata de Gorgos.
Due to our history we have appeared in various programs on television:
